Shelterboxes into Burma

Stroud Rotary are proud to tell you that among the first aid to actually arrive in Burma following the recent cyclone disaster were Rotary Shelterboxes. Each Shelterbox contains a 10-person tent and 10 sleeping  bags, together with equipment such as cooking and household goods for a  family who have lost everything. The box itself doubles as a large  water-tank, and comes complete with water filter and purification tablets to
provide safe drinking water for many weeks.

The boxes are filled and prepared by volunteers of the Rotary Club of Helston Lizard, and then stockpiled around the world ready for disasters to happen. In the Burma disaster, a team from Shelterbox were given visas and arrived on Day 4 - by now over 1000 Shelterboxes have been distributed, with the help of local Rotary Clubs in countries around Burma.

Thanks to Tesco's for allowing the collection to take place at short notice

The boxes are sponsored by Rotary Clubs in the Uk, and other generous donors. Stroud Rotary have sponsored 13 boxes at a total cost of over £6000, money raised by the generosity of local Stroud people. For example, a recent collection at Tesco Stroud raised nearly £300, and Stroud Rotary will be sending 2 further boxes with the help of this money and other Club  fundraising efforts. Each box costs £500, and anyone wishing to
contribute (or even sponsor a whole box) can do so by contacting Stroud Rotary  www.stroudrotary.org.uk.

If you would like to make a contribution then cheques made payable to Stroud Rotary Club can be sent to
